We are modernizing livestock buildings in Tengeru.
One of the significant activities carried out by our Foundation in Tanzania as part of the Polish Aid project is the modernization of the livestock buildings belonging to the Livestock Training Agency in Tengeru. This was a continuation of work begun in 2024. As part of the project, modernization of the milking parlor belonging to the project beneficiary (LITA Tengeru) continued. The modernization work was guided by the recommendations of an animal husbandry expert. In the part of the building surrounding the area where animals await milking, old plaster was removed and new plaster was applied. The walls were smoothed, primed, and painted – the lower part, more susceptible to damage by cows, with oil paint, and the upper part with emulsion paint. New passageways were established within the building, for both animals and people. New doorways were made and steel service doors were installed. Part of the building was separated from the remaining parts (calf sheds) with new walls. A new, additional entrance was constructed in the building, connecting it with the dairy processing plant’s educational building, which was being built simultaneously. A new gate opening was created, allowing for the separation of cows entering the parlor from those leaving after milking. The opening was secured with a gate and supplemented
with a gently sloping concrete approach. A section of the building designated for the steel tank intended for milking collection was separated (using new walls). The room was equipped with a new door and a new double-glazed PVC window. The new room was partially tiled. In accordance with the expert’s instructions, the interior architecture of the milking parlor was changed. All existing steel fences for the milking stalls were removed and replaced with feed fences purchased from Poland and installed on-site. The previous, visibly worn feed bins were replaced with a new concrete feed table located alongside the feed fences. Five photovoltaic panels were installed on the building’s roof. Due to the need to install an energy storage system, an inverter, and additional equipment for a single-phase photovoltaic system in the milking parlor building, a dedicated room was constructed for this purpose. Part of the walls in the calf barns were demolished, adapting them to the animals’ needs. As part of the project, two mobile electric milking machines were purchased locally to equip the milking parlor. Two feed carts and a set of plastic calf feeding buckets were purchased in Poland and installed in the calf barn. These were supplemented by waterers purchased earlier in Poland, installed and connected to the water supply.
